Social Action - SALT
MISSION & GOALS
MISSION STATEMENT:
In response to our baptismal call to share in the mission of Jesus Christ, we strive to empower our parishes of St. Andrew and St. Elizabeth Seton to develop a greater awareness of and participation in the social dimension of the Church. To this end, we work in solidarity on behalf of the poor and vulnerable to bring about a more just, hope-filled, and compassionate society.
GOALS
To achieve these ends, we will work toward these immediate goals:
- to broaden awareness of all the dimensions of Catholic Social Teaching through specific educational programs, activities and announcements:
Examples:
- Just Faith ( an RCIA like process of Social Justice Conversion)
- elections including national, state and county issue education
- fair trade education and activities
- Pro-life education
2. to provide direct service to individuals, families or groups in need, especially those whose need is the result of structural injustice. This service is provided in cooperation with other ministries and to those needs not addressed by other ministries.
Examples:
- Comprehensive resource descriptions of agencies in Clermont county for others to reference in support of the poor and vulnerable.
- Homelessness - Support for Homeless shelter in Clermont County
- Single Moms - to address the special needs of a single parent
- Special Transportation needs in Clermont County- Enable job holders to get to work
- Bridge of Hope ministries- Parish support of families in Clermont County
3. To engage in and promote activities directed toward change of unjust social problems.
Examples:
- Education (local and global) on Social Justice
- Letter writing - advocacy
- Communication through the Social Justice Parish Collaborative ( parishes working together for change)
