St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish

Dear People of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish,

The Parish Festival has come and gone. It was a great success! Many people enjoyed the company of family and friends, the festival atmosphere, and the great weather. Many thanks to Greg and Ruth Brothers, and to all the many many parishioners from Seton and from St. Andrew who make this event possible. Congratulations to all those who won prizes.

As we move slowly into fall, many parish activities begin again, like our SASEAS School, RCIA, PRP, school sports, and more. It is always good to see our campus fully alive. We welcome everyone back..

This edition of Setonotes includes two more of Fr. Joe Andres’ reflections. As many of you know, Fr. Joe was a priest for over 60 years, many of which were spent in Clermont and Brown counties. After he retired from active ministry, he lovingly served our parish for 17 years. He died Feb 2, 2009 after a yearlong illness. Before he died, he wrote twelve short chapters about his life as a parish priest. They are uniquely Fr. Joe, and we can imagine him telling us these stories himself. Enjoy. .

Three years ago, we began a parish campaign to pay off our parish loan. A dedicated and talented group of parishioners came together to create a plan and present it to the parish. Over 450 parishioners have generously responded and we have received $750,000. Thank you. Our parish loan has been reduced as of 7/31/10 to $977,474. Our campaign will continue until June 30, 2011. Please help us reach our goal. Thank you.

For the fiscal year, 2009 - 2010, we ended the year with a deficit. We will be giving you a more detailed financial report to the parish later in September.

In September we will have our Parish Ministry Fair. Thanks to all who participate in a parish ministry. If you do not, is the Lord inviting you to join one? Please pray about what ministry the Lord might be asking you to participate in.

Catholics in the United States will begin using the long-awaited English translation of the Roman Missal on the first Sunday of Advent in 2011, Cardinal Francis E. George of Chicago said on August 20th. The cardinals announcement as president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops marks the formal beginning of a more than 15-month period of education and training leading to the first use of the "third typical edition" of the Roman Missal at English-language Masses in the United States on November 27, 2011. In a decree of proclamation sent to the U.S. bishops August 20, Cardinal George said, "The use of the third edition of the Roman Missal enters into use in the dioceses of the United States of America as of the first Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011. From that date forward, no other edition of the Roman Missal may be used in the dioceses of the United States of America." "The order and structure of the Mass will not change at all," he added, “but Catholics will see some new texts for prayers, new observances for saints added to the Church calendar in recent decades and such additions as a Mass in thanksgiving for the gift of human life and an extended vigil for Pentecost, similar to the Easter Vigil.”

We welcome this new edition and look forward to the next 15 months of preparation.

God bless you,

Fr. Michael L. Cordier
